No VOMIT!!

Wow, what a headline.

Not sure why exactly, but the last few days have been amazing.

Kaitlyn didn't vomit ALL day yesterday, and so far so good today, which is a rarity for the morning feeds. And she only vomited 1 x the day prior. I don't know when this last happened.

The only main thing that is different is that she is on an antibiotic for her sinus/ear infection.

I think it's hard to explain how I feel exactly, but let me try to explain how I don't feel:
-The dread when the vomit starts to come up.
-The irritability when you work so hard to prepare a meal and get it down her and then have it come back up.
-The uckyness of cleaning up vomit

How do I feel with a day of vomit freeness? ELATION!

In case you missed vomit, here's a picture of vomit I caught a few days back.

Oh, and other great news, Kaitlyn's face looks really great a week after her accident. I can't believe it's been just a week, I'll try to remember to take a picture this afternoon, but she's healing very quickly.

Hi Liz,

I got your reply to a vomit comment I made a few weeks ago (thanks back). I'm glad Kaitlyn is healing quickly. Maybe the fall jiggled something neurologically with her gag reflex??? I will keep my fingers crossed the vomit-free streak continues.

Hugs,
Sarah

YAY!!! We love no vomit days (though I am not sure we remember them; it's now officially 6 months without a no vomit day). Reading your post makes me gag (so to speak) because it so very well captures our life---the feeding, the waiting with crossed fingers, the inevitable undoing of all the hard work, the refeeding, and yes, the exhaustion.

May all of your days be vomit free, Liz. If anyone in the world deserves that, you do.

And great to hear about Kaitlyn's healing face. She really is a trooper...And so are you.

Is she by chance on Erythromycin?! E has the side effect of speeding up gastric function. It empties out the stomach faster, hence less puke. Many of the children with DGE ( delayed gastric emptying ) are on it for JUST that reason.

I was going to ask if she had delayed gastric empting like Sarah suggested has she ever had a scan for stomache mortility? Erythromycin is an antibiotic sometimes used to treat delayed empting though any antibiotic that causes loose stools to some extent is doing the same thing. Regalin is also used to treat delayed empting. If she has not been tested for delayed empting it may be worth it to ask about getting her tested. It is a GI series the clild is given barium and then it is tracked to see how fast it moves through the digestive system. I don't remember how fast it is sopossed to go because when my oldest had this scan done it was fine. Good luck and may you have many many more vomit free days

First, congrats on no vomit!!!

Second...Is this the first time she's been on antibiotics? Could it be the vomiting was caused by some type of infection or bug???

Yipee, wishing you many more vomit free days. We are on a record breaking 3 weeks sans vomit. I so know that dread, I heard Elizabeth cough in bed the other night and my stomach did a flip-flop and I tensed ready for the dash to her room.
Hope things are improving in the eating department and Kaitlyn is still enjoying her chips.

Hi Liz, Just visiting your site for the first time. I'm a member of the Marin Multiples club too. I just wanted to let you know that my heart really goes out to you and Kaitlyn was lucky to be born to such devoted, wonderful parents who do everything they can for her.
