homecoming pictures!

First a few pictures from Thursday, my friend Lisa was visiting (mom to 4 preemies) taking pictures and Whitney was visiting too (step-sister) and they were there to hear the news that Quinn could come home on Saturday!

I know it seems funny that I'm smiling while Quinn is crying, but you have to understand, we NEVER heard Katilyn cry (and still can't) to this day. His cry is music to my ears! Mom attempting to breast feed and feeling very happy about the little guy actually trying, (never had much luck with Katilyn), but he's still not doing all that great at it. He tuckers out after a few minutes and starts crying, wanting milk from the bottle.

Trying to burp Quinn

Aren't baby feet the most amazing things?

Proud mama in the NICU

Going Home Day!

Quinn's going home outfit (not really planned out) First time without leads (monitors) attached. It's such a feeling to hold your baby (and scary) for the first time without looking up to the moinitors to see if he's breathing and getting enough oxygen. It's also amazing not to have to worry about all the cords. Only NICU mammas can understand this amazing sense of freedom (and fear) at the same time!

Quinn in car set on floor of NICU. This is when I first started really crying. Quinn was in the NICU in the same exact spot that Kaitlyn was when she went home and I remembered putting her in her car seat on the floor and so many emotions came rushing back to me. I'll see if I can find Kaitlyn's picture in her car seat for comparison. Quinn is SOOO much smaller on going home, which is also crazy, as obvioiusly Kaitlyn was such a smaller baby at birth.
Here is Kaitlyn on her going home day in her car seat!

Kaitlyn's home coming with our dog Kailan

In the car. Freedom! Of course I looked at him over and over to make sure he wasn't turning blue and not breathing.

At home at last!

Kaitlyn checking out her baby brother

Wow, this picture melts my heart!

Today, Kaitlyn checking out her baby brother sleeping. In the morning Kaitlyn runs out in to see where Quinn is.

This picture today of Quinn sleeping reminded me of the front cover of a Preemie book that was our bible while we were in the NICU with Kaitlyn.

I've been checking in hoping for this update.

Gosh, he's so beautiful! Congratulations on the homecoming & I know exactly what you mean about the freedom to hold your baby without all the leads. He looks so tiny in that car seat & it's hard to imagine my girls weighed even less than he did when they came home with us. Seeing him in there brought back all those memories. Thank you and God Bless.

Hugs & Blessings!

Such awesome pictures! So happy for you all. A friend of mine who has a tube-fed boy with Mytochondrial Disorder was terrified when she had her second baby as well. The second was normal and she did not know how to handle a normal baby... Baby is now 2 years old and she managed just fine.

Congratulations! I was hoping that this was the reason you hadn't posted about how Quinn was doing. He is so adorable. I love the last picture. So cute!

He is such a beautiful boy Liz!! I am so happy for all of you.

I sure can remember bringing Tyler home without any wires. It felt so incredibly wrong. I didn't know what to do with a unattached baby!

Hugs,

Stacy

Liz,
He is absolutely gorgeous :-) Yahoo on being home and wireless... its an amazing yet odd feeling isn't it?

When P was in the SCN/NICU, we used to joke how high tech that she was with all her wires and machines.. and when she came home, we called her Presleigh V2.0, Wireless Model.

I hope you're getting rest and that Miss K is a little more excited about her brother now. Can she say Quinn?

He's really pretty Liz. I too remember coming home with the kids off monitors. Abigail was home 2 days after Porter and I remember asking if I could bring home the apnea monitor. They said it wasnt necessary. I had to totally trust them. And yes I too know the experience of wires vs no wires.
Congrats and kiss and smell his head for me.
And of course congrats to Brian and Miss Kaitlyn. She must be so thrilled. Does she help you???? I bet she does.

Hi, Liz!
Found your blog and have been reading about your story. Congratulations on the latest addition to your great family, your beautiful boy. He is a treasure and Kaitlyn is the princess of the castle.
We have a 4-year-old son who has a G-tube since he was 30 day old. As of today he does not eat anything thru his mouth and drinks water only. For the past four years,we tried different approaches with different feeding specialists with no progress. Recently we read about Dr. Patel from Novato. We would appreciate, as you can for sure understand what that means, all your feedback on Dr Patel's practice, approach and results.
Please send your comments to popov_milena@yahoo.com
Thank you in advance and All the best to you and your Family. Enjoy every precious moment with them. You did it so well.
