Just a quick note

It's almost midnight. Have GOT to get to bed. Just wanted to give a quick update on everyone:

me: I was in Sacramento for the last few days for another Women's Council State Meeting, where I had to do some public speaking. I have 4 houses in escrow and wrote another offer tonight. I think the real estate market (at least here in Marin) is picking up!

Kaitlyn: is finally better after 2 weeks of being sick. She seemed to be back to her cheerful self today (after weeks of whining and crying). For the first time she actually ate some of her dinner neatly! (she has to be the messiest eater of all times). She lost close to 2 pounds over the last 2 weeks, but seemed to eat a lot tonight finally.

Quinn: Boy, he's one sensitive little guy. 2 nights last week I had 2.5 hours of crying in the middle of the night. It might be teething, as I can see a little of his bottom teeth finally coming in. He's still quite delayed. He is FINALLY sitting up on his own (but we have to get him to sitting). He will also now allow us to leave him on his belly for a while, but he can't seem to roll over any more in any direction. He is able to push himself around in a circle while on his belly, (I think he's trying to roll, but get's his arms stuck). He isn't eating great, but I have to say, when he does want to eat solids, it's soooo amazing to watch him open his mouth. That's something that is totally new to me! His milk/formula intake has gone way down (I'm hoping it's just cause he was sick the last 2 weeks). we'll see. But I do have to say, when he's not crying, he's the happiest, cutest giggly smiley little guy ever! Just wish he wasn't such an "extreme" little man. Boy can he cry and drive his mama a bit loco!

On a side note, I'm in total shock, as one of my micro preemie blog mom members has been in the news with a shockingly awful news story. I'm not going to mention the details here, as this is a criminal case, but for those of you who know what I'm talking about, I at least had to blog that I'm in shock, saddened and just speechless. I know this mom. She's been a member of my group for a long time and has been a very active participant.

I do believe that this is a mental illness situation. But it's heartbreakingly sad for her children and her husband.

When I feel I can, (as I'm sure this is going to be a very public story) I'll post the link. In the meantime, for those of you who know what I'm talking about, just know I'm in shock and am trying to decide what to do about it for the groups sake.

Hug and love your children! Please be good to them!

Nice to hear from you, Liz, I was wondering how busy you must be. Im glad to hear Kaitlyn is feeling better !! And yes please post the link when you feel like it, I dont know what your'e talking about but i always believed that the more people read and hear about stories like this, the more they can help realize someone else is in trouble and help them while there is still time, if they recognize the signs

Have a great day !

I understand the seemingly insurmountable stress and pain and guilt and sadness that's involved with having a special needs child...I even get having scary awful thoughts...but this I just can't wrap my head around...you're right, it MUST be mental illness.

Liz,
Sad news huh? She's actually been sorta my friend. I was just up to see her daughter a few weeks ago. The kids and I went. Man, little did I (or anyone) know. Let's hope this sheds some light on this horrible disease. She, along with her daughter and whole family need our thoughts and prayers if any of your readers are the praying kind. This is just too much too think about.

For the groups sake and for all mothers. By all I mean ALL. We need to let every mom we know that we are here. If you feel like you need help or in trouble please reach out. Don't let a mom you know hole up and stay at home all the time. We all have responsibilities. I know. We all are busy. I have let one of my neighbors know that I might need her one day. She's there for me. She knows my children and can come down if I need to take a small (10 min) break. Don't let these women fade into the background.
Thanks,
Your friend and supporter and supporter to all moms near and far.

Hi Liz.

Potentially every mom and especially a mom of a child with special needs has a probability of cracking under the pressure and develop psychosis. The line that separates us from severe depression can be very thin sometimes. Like our children have regular checkups, I wish someone would periodically talk with parents of children with special needs to make sure they are doing ok, and direct them to get help if needed.

I live in Austin and the news printed an article from a couple years ago when she was interviewed about her preemie. I realized there is more to the story than a horrible, delinquent mother, but I was horrified at her actions.

I hope you do not expell the preemie mom in question from your group (assuming she is in any position to participate). There are 2 (or more) sides to every story.

hi there,
i've read your blog from time to time, and what amazing and beautiful little ones you have!
i'm an early intervention/early childhood PT and i would probably have met/worked with kaitlyn if i lived in your area! :) sounds like quinn might benefit from some services, if he is 9 months adjusted and just learning to sit, and not rolling. give him a boost now...then he can catch up and keep up.
hopefully you guys can catch your breath this summer!
:)
